CAPTAIN'S COLUMN: Be sure to take your camera
when you head across Montana
Now that spring is here, it’s time to get and enjoy Montana’s outdoors.
And if you’re heading out, be sure to take your camera with you and take some photos of the activities that you are enjoying.
At least, that is what University of Montana student Alicia Hamilton would like to have you do, and she is going to try and reward you for your efforts.
Hamilton, who is part of the School of Forestry and Conservation in the Recreation Management program, has put together the Western Montana Outdoor Recreation Photo Contest.
“My goal with this contest is to highlight the outdoor recreation opportunities available to diverse communities throughout Western Montana,” said Hamilton. “All the proceeds for this program go to trail development up at Lubrecht Experimental Forest.”
In addition, the high school category proceeds will provide scholarships for high school students to attend the Montana Natural Resources Youth Camp.
The photo contest, according to Hamilton, is designed to highlight amateur photographers who have captured the outdoor recreational opportunities available to diverse communities throughout Western Montana.
Entry fee for the General Public is $5.00 and, for U of M students, the fee is $3.00. The deadline to submit photos is Friday Mar. 30. The winner will be announced in April and will be awarded prizes that have been donated by local merchants.
“This is the first year and I am hoping it goes well so we can make this an annual event,” said Hamilton.
