The People's Center promotes pride and respect for all of life.
Vision Statement: The People's Center will bring the people together, promote a healthy way of life and create a vision for this way of life. This will foster the awareness, understanding, and appreciation for the Salish and Kootenai culture as it is passed from generation to generation.
Mission Statement: The People's Center exists to provide public education on aspects of traditional lifestyles and histories of the Salish, Kootenai, and Pend d'Oreille people as sanctioned by tribal Elders and the Culture Committees.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The People's Center is offering Cultural Education Classes that are open to the public. Everyone will be responsible for their own materials. Salish & Kootenai Tribal artists; Karen Kapi, Margaret Maestas and Anita Joseph will be available to assist you. These three women are experts in beading and constructing outfits. Their work can also be observed Mondays, Tuesday's and Thursdays at The People's Center. They will be beading and sewing on projects that show the traditional art of beading.
All classes are from 9am to 4pm. Tribal artists will at the center Monday thru Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm.
Wednesdays - Outfit construction, sewing, beading. Tribal artists are on hand to help you construct, design, sew and bead your outfit.
Fridays - Open beading classes. Come and learn the different styles and techniques of beading from tribal artists. Bring the supplies for the project you wish to learn about.
Special classes can be scheduled also by calling or visiting the artists.

The Gift Shop and Museum are open Monday thru Saturday for the summer season. 9am to 5pm (Saturdays 10 am to 5pm).
Ignace "IG" Couture, Kootenai Tribal Elder-Artist has recently come on board to show his art of making bone jewelry, sculptures and carvings.
He and the other artists will be here at the center through October. He will also be available to teach and share his knowledge. Please stop by or call for an appointment.
